Lifting tools adapted for cleanrooms – where hygiene and precision are crucial

In environments where cleanliness and hygiene are crucial – such as in the pharmaceutical and food industries – lifting solutions are required that are not only ergonomic and efficient, but also adapted to high standards of sterility and contamination control. In this article, we explain more about what characterizes a cleanroom, why specially adapted equipment is needed, and how Lifts All's lifting aids are designed to meet these specific requirements.

Why specially adapted lifting tools are needed in cleanrooms

Cleanrooms are designed to maintain a controlled amount of particles in the air – sometimes as little as a few particles per cubic meter. This is regulated according to the international standard ISO 14644. The lower the particle content, the higher the cleanliness class – and the higher the demands on the equipment.

In such environments, microscopic dust particles, skin flakes, or oil residues are enough to negatively affect the product. Therefore, every step in production must be designed to avoid contributing to dirt or contamination.

Standard lifting systems are well suited for most industrial environments, but in cleanrooms with strict hygiene requirements, the equipment must meet specific standards, such as:
• Be made of stainless, hygienic material
• Withstand disinfection with alcohol and other strong agents
• Have smooth, polished surfaces and joints
• Not emit particles or oils during use

Customized solutions for cleanroom environments

To meet the specific needs of cleanroom environments, we offer lifting tools made of highly polished stainless steel. The tools have polished joints, which prevent the accumulation of dirt and bacteria. The design makes it possible to clean the equipment thoroughly – even with alcohol or other disinfectants several times a day. Many of the products can also be adapted for use in ATEX environments, which means that they are safe to use even where there is a risk of explosion, for example where gases, vapors, or dust and powder-like substances are present.

If you have specific requirements – such as FDA-approved materials – we provide a cleanroom questionnaire to ensure that all your needs are met. The questionnaire is completed in consultation with us, which helps us deliver the right solution for your specific cleanroom environment.

Our various types of specially adapted tools for cleanrooms can all be customized in both form and function:

1. Vacuum grippers

Perfect for lifting flat or airtight objects such as cardboard boxes, plastic lids, bags, or sacks with sensitive contents. The vacuum system can be adapted so that the air is evacuated outside the cleanroom.

2. Mechanical gripper

gripper grasp from the side or from below, for example, to handle containers, cans, pipes, buckets, or porous types of bags. The controls can be designed with covered buttons to ensure good hygiene.

3. Traverse systems and articulated jib cranes

We also offer suspension systems for our lifting tools – traverses and cranes in materials and designs that are approved for cleanrooms. They can be mounted on ceilings or walls and have encapsulated or stainless steel components that can withstand sterile environments.

Clean air

Our lifting solutions are powered by compressed air – an environmentally friendly and energy-efficient alternative to direct electric power. In cleanroom environments, the system can be adapted so that the used air is vented out of the room, preventing the recirculation of particles and helping to maintain the room's cleanliness class.

Designed to suit your needs

Every cleanroom is unique—and so are our lifting tools. In collaboration with our customers, we develop gripper solutions tailored to the materials being handled, the facility’s workflow, and specific hygiene requirements. Whether you’re lifting delicate components, heavy bags, or bulky containers, we ensure that the lifting is performed ergonomically, safely, and hygienically.

Efficiency and ergonomics – without compromise

Manual lifting in controlled environments isn’t just physically demanding—it can also pose a risk to the product. Our lifting aids reduce the risk of mishandling, damage, and contamination, while improving the work environment. With over unique lifting solutions in our portfolio, we have the tools and expertise to create a better everyday experience even in the most demanding environments.
